PODCAST: Based on a true story?

I joined the guys over at Movie Podcast Weekly again, this time invited on as a "permanent part-time" host. I think that means that although my schedule doesn't allow me to sit-in regularly, they don't want to have to introduce me as a guest anymore. Anyway, I talked about 4 movies that were billed as being based on actual events, though I have a feeling there was a spectrum of truthiness (copyright Al Franken) cross films. It was a fun discussion, as always with those guys (Jason is a legitimate film critic, Karl is an actor) and I got to bring my friend Bill on with me too. That's William Rowan Jr, one of the co-Producers of CLEANFLIX. Enjoy!

Jason Pyles » 01.14.13 »

For Episode 016, we have another double-feature review for you of “Gangster Squad” and “Zero Dark Thirty,” with special guest screenwriter / producer WILLIAM ROWAN JR. During this show, we’ll also reflect on the nominees for the upcoming, 85th Academy Awards ceremony, as well as our usual Mini Reviews.

LIST: The Films of 2012

Joshua Ligairi » 1.12.13 »

I didn't make a list of my favorite films from last year, and I almost skipped this year as well, because I have been so busy at work that I didn't see as many as I'd have liked. But, I had to create a Top 10 for Movie Podcast Weekly's end of year show, so most of the work was done at that point and I decided to just go ahead with what I've seen. And I'm glad I did because this was actually a terrific year for film in my opinion. As usual, I don't like to break my choices down numerically, so you'll find them categorized in my own way below. If you prefer a more traditional list, check out Movie Podcast Weekly 13 where I list my Top 10 of 2012 along with the MPW hosts and special guest Dave Becker, from DVDInfatuation.com (aka Dr. Shock!!!). Just FYI, I have been able to see a few more films since then and my list morphed a bit before this posting.

Excellent (2012) These were my favorite films of the year.

Above Average (2012) These were solid movies that are better than most of the crap out there.

For the Greater Glory . GLOW . Haywire .  How to Survive a Plague . The Inkeepers . Killer Joe . Only the Young . Paranorman . Rust And Bone . Searching For Sugarman .  Silent House . Most Overrated (2012) I didn't like these as much as you did.
